Let’s take a look at the two examples here. These dragons are like humans (or any animal where both parents raise the young, such as lions, emperor penguins, and red foxes)—they coparent, so having a baby dragon in the drawing doesn’t actually help define their gender.

I don’t think there is any mistaking which one is the mom and which one is the dad; again, that is because I applied features to each dragon that stereotypically apply to one gender or the other in humans. The female dragon has a long, flowing spine, and the ridges over her eyes imitate long eyelashes (a common trick used in cartoons to make animals look more feminine is to give them eyelashes!). Her features are softer and her muscles not overly defined, and if she was standing, I would make sure to draw a curvier figure.
